Swivel safety locking devices used in combination with padlocks are a popular locking system.
However, with regard to the cost, this solution is not as advantageous as the use of cylinder locks. The purchase price of a swivel safety locking device is comparable to a cylinder lock, but it is necessary to take into account the additional cost of purchasing padlocks. This cost can be transferred to the users who can buy padlocks at their own expense.
But then it is necessary to bear in mind that each user could use a different type and size of padlock, and this would not look aesthetically pleasing in the changing room. Also, the users do not often bear in mind the recommended size of the padlock shackle, which may limit the proper function of the lock and reduce the level of security.
Swivel padlock safety locking devices
The swivel safety locking devices for the BURG OB1 HO padlock have a metal durable structure with a black plastic cover on the outside. The outer part serves as a control element in which a hole for threading the padlock shackle is placed. The recommended size of the padlock shackle is 5-8 mm. The angle of rotation of the safety locking device is 180 °, and thanks to that the safety locking device can be used for both right and left doors.
The safety function of the safety locking device is as follows. After inserting the padlock shackle into the safety locking device eyelet, the outer part of the lock is disconnected from the bolt mechanism. The outer part rotates freely, thus preventing the possibility of forcible rotation of the safety locking device in the mounting hole.
Standard swivel safety locking devices for padlocks
The BURG O1 HO swivel safety locking devices have a solid all-metal structure. The outer part serves as a rotary control feature. The angle of rotation is 90%, and so it is necessary to distinguish the design for right and left doors. In the lower outer part of the safety locking device, there is an eyelet for threading the padlock shackle. This fixes the safety locking device in the locked position. The recommended diameter of the padlock shackle is 5-7 mm.
The design of the safety locking device is sufficiently massive, but a certain safety risk is posed by the possibility of forcibly turning the lock in the mounting hole using a suitable tool and levering. We try to prevent this to the maximum extent possible by installing a reinforcing element for the mounting hole.
Higher level of security
We supply swivel safety locking devices for padlocks, which we mount in garment lockers or lockable boxes, with a double-sided locking hook bolt. This structural element, together with the other reinforcements in the door and the body, increases resistance to tearing or levering the door open by more than twice compared to the conventional competing solutions.
Our recommendation
If possible, we recommend using cylinder locks. We prefer them to padlock systems. The main arguments are the comfort of operation, design uniformity, easy lost key solution, and the fact that the price of common variants of padlocks is comparable to the price of our cylinder locks.
